Research areas
Safety for closed systems such as machinery is relatively well established. On the other hand, safety for open systems which are largely affected by external environments, or complex systems in which system components (including humans) mutually interact have not been well established. Especially in the field of innovative technologies, treatment of unknown risks is essential. How to realise the safety of the systems including large uncertainties is the research goal in our laboratory.
Forte of this laboratory's study
1. Risk assessment of complex systems
2. Evaluaiotn of safety management (incl. emergency response, BCP, etc.)
3. Performance evaluation of robot

Areas interesting to interact with
1. Foresight
2. Systems engineering
3. Resilience engineering
4. Marine engineering
5. Other engineering fields that are innovative
Message
I got Ph D. in earth science and worked in a marine research institute as a safety specialist for long years. Through these backgrounds, I came to have strong interest on how to treat risks or uncertainties beyond human control in a system. I am looking for fellows who think this theme in the context of society and earth (or extra-earth) systems.
